New Hampshire GOP Debate & Polls
zachvaughn: Similar to my post on S. Carolina, I want to look at the state of the GOP primary in the state of New Hampshire. The date is set for June 13th, and it will air at 8pm (Eastern) on CNN (Source). Last night 5 of the candidates were in Manchester, NH for a forum: Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, and Rick Santorum. The American Research Group’s New Hampshire poll...

mikeuehlein asked: Why do you say Daniels is out (or do you just mean he's not going to win Iowa)? Every reporter in Indiana thinks he's set to announce a run shortly after the Indiana legislative session ends this week.

Will Johnson Split Libertarian Voters? →
alexholzbach: Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson—marathoner, extreme skier and proponent of legalized marijuana—is jumping into the 2012 Republican presidential race, adding variety to what already promises to be a crowded field. The two-term governor, who left office nine years ago after proudly vetoing 750 pieces of legislation, promises to run a long-shot campaign heavy on libertarian...

The GOP 2012 Iowa Caucuses...
… are pretty much up for grabs if Huckabee doesn’t run, which looks likely. Barbour’s out. So are Thune and Pence. Paul and Bachmann are all to … goofy for pragmatic Iowans. I think Gingrich is too washed up. Romney and Huntsman (if he runs) aren’t terribly likely to pay much attention to Iowa where the Mormon thing will be a liability. I guess that shifts things...

zachvaughn asked: I'm being facetious about Huntsman (about all of them really, except Trump, that guy is just ridiculous). It's being reported today that Huntsman is going looking at New Hampshire and S. Carolina and would skip Iowa if he decides to run (which I think is a good strategy), and his PAC has made some quality hires.

A letter to the "ruling class"?
AZSpot posted a letter from Jesse (“the Mind”) Ventura. I added some footnotes. Open letter to the ruling class1 You control our world.2 You’ve poisoned the air we breathe, contaminated the water we drink, and copyrighted[^1] the food we eat. We fight in your wars,3 die for your causes, and sacrifice our freedoms to protect you. You’ve liquidated our savings,4 destroyed our...

This Week in GOP 2012 Primary Insanity
zachvaughn: Another week, more zaniness from the Donald. Speaking to a Tea Party group, Trump continues to ask to see Obama’s birth certificate and claims Bill Ayers wrote Pres. Obama’s first book (among other things). I still maintain his entire candidacy is a publicity stunt. At a different Tea Party meeting (in Wisconsin), Sarah Palin told the GOP: “What we need is for you to stand up, GOP,...

When you decapitate an entitlement program, it...
Correlations to None believes that Medicare, Medicaid, and Social security are on their way out.1 healthpolitics disagrees. This ignores the reality that Medicare has been expanded significantly a few times over the past decade and has not seen counterbalancing cuts of any seriousness. I am not buying the argument that the current deficit-hawkishness is so novel and so potent that this...

zachvaughn asked: I agree with you; I think the Party will move away from some of the more "loony" ideas of the Tea Party, while still stressing the message of smaller government, etc. The populist aspect of the Tea Party is a way forward for the GOP, even if some of its messages are not. And unless the Tea Party is going to try and form their own organization, then they will remain with the GOP because...
